The Story
Welcome to Pronouns: The Musical.
Some may ask, “Pronouns?”, but we at A Frank Angle say, “Why not pronouns!”
A subset of nouns, pronouns serve as a substitute for nouns and noun phrases. These bits of linguistics and grammar are versatile and can almost refer to anything.
Although pronouns can be personal, objective, possessive, indefinite, relative, intensive, demonstrative, interrogative, reflexive, and reciprocal, this musical extravaganza focuses on selected pronouns.
Program
Act 1: I
I – when the speaker or writer refers to self as the grammar object in a sentence
I – but not me (that’s Act 2)
“I am the greatest.” (Muhammad Ali)
“I shall return.” (US General Douglas MacArthur)
“I have no special talent. I am only passionately curious.” (Albert Einstein)
“I have a lot to be thankful for. I am healthy and I am loved.” (Reba McEntire)
“I am a strong woman because a strong woman raised me.” (Writing journal title)
Guidelines
Songs must have I in the title
Cautions
- No duplicates songs regardless of artists
- Contractions are acceptable at the discretion of The Producer
Production Note
To prevent browsers crashing from loading too many videos, please: 1) include the song title and artist in your text, and 2) paste the URL as part of your last line (not a new line). The latter will provide a link, thus not embed the actual video … but I don’t mind unembedding, so apologies are not necessary.
Announcement
Welcome to Opening Night of the latest musical by aFa Productions: Pronouns: The Musical.
Selecting the opening number for any act is difficult, but finding the starter for Act 1 on Opening Night requires extra scrutiny. In the spirit of our leader’s contrarian nature, we at aFa Productions think outside the box – and a Mummers band perfectly fits that criteria. Let’s give a rousing aFa welcome to the Polish American String Band and I’m Looking Over a Four Leaf Clover.
Act 2 – You – Next Saturday @ 1:00 am (Eastern US)
So, dear Frank… you have decided to have these babies post at 1 am? What happened to the 9 pm time slot, eh? No matter… I am pleased to be first up (there have to be some benefits to working this bloody job…)
So many options with the “I”. So, being me, I am going with “I Love My Lips” from the Veggie Tales. Why? Because who the hell else would be so silly? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j1FGaCNN1aw

Dale,
OMG … you had my laughing on this one, which is new to me! Thanks for my morning chuckle.
Regarding the start time, it’s 9 pm somewhere – advantage to the other parts of the world. Besides, it’s also the first time I’ve held a musical on a weekend – so I’m working around OITS and a beach walk.

So very glad I did, Frank. Was my goal after all 😉
Start time was just mentioned as you know I await these babies… 😁

This post reminded me of seventh grade grammar and diagramming sentences.

PS- What really was the purpose of diagramming sentences? My husband says you can’t live properly without knowing calculus. I have no idea why he married me.

Cindy,
You made me laugh thinking about diagraming sentences! Meanwhile, I’ve had calculus, but not sure I ever used it! Meanwhile, hubby married you because of who you are – so you can sing this Neil Diamond song to him – I am I said. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xf1S9U2ghrI

I and I by Dylan because it’s Dylan, it’s good and I find it unusual that he appropriated the rasta expression (plus it’s a double). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9r53RxwikRU

What a fabulous song – and one with the same pronoun twice. I admit not knowing this song, but awesome!

Pauline,
Well know – consider this song as another that I don’t know. I always enjoy when we get a variety of genres in the act .. and the fact that you love this song makes it even more special. Thank you … and I enjoyed it, too!

Bonnie Raitt is one of my favorite artists and this song, “I Can’t Make You Love Me”, is one of my favorites, written by Nashville songwriting team Alan Shambling & Mike Reid. “The idea for the song came to Reid while reading an article about a man arrested for getting drunk and shooting at his girlfriend’s car. The judge asked him if he had learned anything, to which he replied, “I learned, Your Honor, that you can’t make a woman love you if she don’t.” (Wikipedia). This song just slays me, pulls at my heart. Here it is: https://youtu.be/nW9Cu6GYqxo

Bonnie Raitt is a wonderful artist who has had a great career. I like her variety of styles. This song is another new one for me, whew … I definitely tugs at the heart.

A different genre:Gilbert and Sullivan’s “I am the Very Model of a Modern Major General.” Randy Rainbow’s latest parody uses this melody, but it’s A Very Stable Genius. 🙂 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rs3dPaz9nAo

What a great choice, Merril! So much fun.

Merril,
Oh my … I surely didn’t expect Gilbert & Sullivan – and I enjoy the different genres – and the string continues with another song I don’t know! Yes – way to work in “very stable genius.” … and thanks for being subtle.

There’s always this little double entendre from Norah Jones.”I Don’t Know Why.” https://youtu.be/tO4dxvguQDk

Might not fly, Ray… the “I” isn’t officially in the title… Lovely choice though!
LikeLiked by 1 person
Ray,
Norah Jones is a great pic; however, The Producer went into research mode to discover the actual name of this song …. well … Dale is correct – the title lacks “I”
However, being that I’m benevolent one trying to soften The Producer’s stubborn stance, here’s another one from Norah Jones – I’ve Got to See You Again … https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=geqmOTd2vvI

Great choice because I enjoy the different genres readers put forward. It also reminds me of a play we saw last season featuring Cash’s music.

Wow! There are so many “I” songs that come to mind, that it’s like picking a chocolate from a box with no map. However, it’s good here in the box, so let me include: I Am A Rock – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JKlSVNxLB-A ⭐️

I came back to see how the musical was going – it’s great to see what comes up.. Just when I thought we were getting stuck in country up popped some pop and rock and 60’s classics! Great listening here! – and a couple of songs I hadn’t heard before – the Dylan double I and the silly song from Dale 🙂 I’m glad you put another Norah Jones in – there’s got to be some Norah in every good production surely ……..

Dear aFrank aka The Producer,
I know I’m late for the show but I’ve been under-the-weather along with visitors from up North.
CONGRATULATIONS on producing a new musical. This is always my favorite posts by you.
And, of course, your Beach Walks. There have been a great many fabulous songs posted. I didn’t see a favorite musician of mine – Chris Botti “When I Fall in Love” https://youtu.be/HJheZYZTVmE/ – A warm and cozy slow dance song with a smooth jazz sound full of my favorite ingredient: LOVE. Will catch up more as my health improves.
Happy week … Warm Breezes from Florida

Wow … now that is a smooth sound. Very relaxing in many ways! Love it!!!!
The idea for this musical has been in my head for years, so thought I would go with it. To be honest, not sure about future musicals – but time will tell.
PS: I am not The Producer, who actually is a person I hire. Sometimes I have to smooth things over because of his rough edges.
