David Crosby, Stephen Stills, Graham Nash, or Neil Young
The Producer’s Guidelines
- Only songs performed by David Crosby, Stephen Stills, Graham Nash, or Neil Young
Note: As solo performers; therefore without any of the others present
- No duplicate songs
- Include the song title in your introduction text so others can see it
- One song per person (on Day 1)
Note: Return on Day 2 to submit more songs without limits. (My typical signal is posting a song for all attendees.)
- To prevent browsers crashing from loading too many videos, please paste the URL as part of your last line (not a new line) – (I do not mind unembedding, so no apologies are necessary)
“Cinnamon Girl”

Past Concerts (Category): Beatles, Ex-Beatles, Moody Blues, Queen, Neil Diamond, Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Aretha Franklin, Carole King, Elton John, Billy Joel, Crosby Stills Nash & Young (the group)

I could probably do all Neil Young all day long and not even once tease The Producer (though I do wonder how he would react to a Mynah Birds song). My contribution is his requiem for the Rockets (long live Crazy Horse) Running Dry: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZjPC4dDqX4U.

‘Morning greetings to the Producer. Since my first choice was previously listed, I had to go back to square one. I was always a big fan of Buffalo Springfield, being especially partial to the guitar pickin’ and harmonic voice of Stephen Stills. So…how about an extra long version of “Treetop Flyer” as a Plan B? https://youtu.be/wc84v0VcDew

I’m glad your choice was chosen 😉 I love this, Monika. I didn’t know it and now can add it to my guitar-pickin’ selection 🙂

Stills is a remarkable guitarist. Glad this was well received. Happy Saturday!

He is indeed. I don’t really know him as a solo artist. Well, maybe I know him more than I think I know him, yanno? LOL
Happy Saturday to you!

His work with Buffalo Springfield is what turned me on to him. And of course all the stuff he did with CSN & CSN&Y. That voice. Oh my. And being a topnotch lyricist is definitely the cherry on top.
LikeLiked by 1 person
Yes. His voice is wonderful as well. I’ve come to appreciate it!

Unfortunately, Stills is stone deaf now. When he sings with others he watches their lips to see the phrasing. He also feels the music through his feet. He does wear very high end hearing aids, but he’s gone beyond their usefulness.

How sad is that?

It is. He was talking about loosing his hearing as early mas the 1980s.

In those days he stood in front of stacks of amps turned up as high as they would go. Pete Townsend of the Who has the same problem. Most of the old guard suffers from hearing loss to some extent.

While I cannot dispute one way or the other his ability to hear, the man’s guitar skills are still beyond ‘useful.’

No argument there, except that it makes it very hard for him to record. His last studio work was with Judy Collins. She helped guide him through it.

His reputation seems to have favored him well then with the likes of Miss Collins’ assistance. We’d all be so lucky to have good friends like that.

There’s his other friend, who you may have heard of :), Neil Young. Neil plays at Stills’ autism benefit every year without fail. Borthers, those two.

Cincy,
I’m taking a chance and just planting this one here sight (comments) unseen because I know it is going to be overlooked. Since I never really cozied up to any of the quartet outside of a random spill here and there, I went with a choice that rolled up on my playlist recently. A break from the folk tale splendor, if you will. “Love the One You’re With” by Stephen Stills. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HH3ruuml-R4

Excellent choice, Marco. And lucky for you, it’s early and not taken 😉 Plus, Monika just posted a Stills song right before you, which made me smile. I knew this song, had no clue it was by Stephen Stills… how do you like them apples?
LikeLiked by 1 person
It’s cupcake theater compared to some of their other stuff, which is probably why I like it.
Yeah, Stills is the only solo song I have of these four in all my playlist. Dem apples are ready to be sauteed!

Cupcake theatre, eh? Too funny…
Sauteed and turned into pie…but it’s too hot for pie so we’ll just eat the filling!

Truth. But only because folk songs tend to be over exaggerated in their importance.
Sauteed apples with some cheese sauce for dipping. The hell with the temps. They’re not ever going back to normal anyways.

What is it with you Yanks needing to add cheese to everything? Remind me again when it’s minus 40 here…

Marc,
This is an interesting choice … and a fav when the collective got together. Plus, Crosby and Nash are background singers on the recording. On the plus side, you didn’t select a video of the three of them doing the song. Another plus is that the song actually debuted on a Stills album. So it’s complicated – very far from Cupcake Theater. But even The Producer has a benevolent side of his quirky personality.
LikeLiked by 3 people
I’m not well versed in my CSNY, either as a collective or solo, so I didn’t have something at the ready until I thought about this one.
Cupcake Theater was a thought I was riffing on, for a possible future post. The voices in my head were too loud and it made it onto the page.

Thanks, Frank. Croz has been hitting home runs for the last few years. He stays out on the road too, which is saying something because he is very sick. Aside from the issues you may have read about, he’s had three heart attacks in the last five years,
LikeLiked by 2 people
Wow …. I knew he had health issues, but didn’t know much else about it. Interesting how all four of CSNY are so accomplished as individuals – although it seems Neil Young got the most recognition on his own. Interestingly, I enjoyed his music the least.

He’s had a liver transplant— his own fault — has diabetes, a blood illness and heart problems. Keep in mind that all 4 are founders of major bands. Stills and Young with Buffalo Springfield, Crosby with The Byrds and Nash with the Hollies. I like Neil’s music best, although Stills comes in a close second. Neil takes a lot of chances which always interests me.
