With my wife’s retirement and our wedding anniversary, last week was huge for us. Tuesday afternoon was her retirement party at work, then Tuesday night came my salute to #31. She appreciated the many comments from my blogging community, so here’s her comment late in the string.
Thanks to all of you bloggers for the kind wishes in my new retirement life. If the Frank Angle disappears from the web for a while, it will either because we’re having such a good time that he’s never home, or our constant togetherness resulted in a homicide! I’m hoping for the former.
Here’s a snapshot of our happenings
Thursday
- Her last work day, so she was home by noon
- Walking our typical 2-mile loop … but in the afternoon
- Dinner at Seasons 52 to celebrate her retirement and our upcoming anniversary
Friday
- Breakfast out (@First Watch) to celebrate her first day off
- Walked our loop
- I worked 3-7
- She went to dinner with neighbors who invited her
- We met at the dance studio where I planned a surprise retirement celebration
Saturday
Official 39th anniversary day – but in the evening we attended a birthday gathering for a friend
As I’ve written on these pages many times, Blog breaks are good. I try to take several per year, and I know the time for one is now. For me, the break won’t be one of total avoidance because I want to spend time visiting others. After all, I’ve been very negligent recently – which is one of the signs I use to determine the need for a break.
I’m envisioning two weeks, but time will tell. Because of the positive response for featuring Pink Martini, here’s a live version of Amado Mio to send you into my blog break. Meanwhile, remember these words from a great American storyteller – Garrison Keillor – Be well, do good work, and keep in touch.
Have a great break. You have plenty to keep you busy. Loved your wife’s comment. Let’s hope homocide won’t be the outcome!

That video was a lot of fun. Have you ever seen Rita Hayworth sing “Amado Mio” (but her voice was dubbed) in the 1946 film noir classic, “Gilda”? Super sensual! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0d1C1qQ_VoI As a dance-lover, if you’re not familiar with it, I think you’ll find it very entertaining. I highly recommend that film. Milton had a screen shot from it on his iPhone for years. We both give it two thumbs up.

Lame,
Wow … thanks for the timely Milton-recommended flashback. Rita Hayworth was one of the classic beauties of her day. The clip made me wonder about her height … she was 5′ 6″.
Amado Mio is a good song to dance Rumba … and that is what she is doing. Meanwhile, many thanks for the congrats and best wishes.
OH … speaking of the King of Quips, how did he do this year on his Oscar predictions?
LikeLiked by 1 person
Glad you enjoyed the clip! So that’s the Rumba! All I knew for sure was that she wasn’t dancing a waltz, the tango or the twist.
Milton did very well, but his Grumpy Old Man side came out when he guessed Best Picture wring. He selected The Revenant, but I think it went to Spotlight. I was disappointed, too. I thought the bear in The Revenant deserved a Best Supporting Actress nom, but that didn’t happen, either.
LikeLike
Glad to know he did well, but I imagine missing one of the biggies didn’t sit well.

Spotlight won for subject matter. The Revenant was the infinitely superior film.

😦 …. Being that you are the movie buff and connected to others who know movies, I’m asked for your help. We were given this hint for a kind of treasure hunt. “This was delivered to aliens in a recent animated movie.” Help!!! We think the movie may be Zootopia.

Message from Milton: I have no idea if the answer is Zootopia because I didn’t see it. The movie Home is about aliens. The answer might be in there somewhere.

Reading about the movie delivered a hint … Then again, the key is whether or not Home is the correct movie … but, it’s the best I have at the moment. … and thanks to Milton!

Whatever film it is, I’m certain that none of us has seen it. This borders on being a trick question like when my rock music instructor, Joel Selvin, asked, “Who produced the Rolling Stones’ “Between the Buttons” on the final exam. I was the only rock nerd to write, Andrew Loog Oldham. I aced that final. Afterward, he said, “You must read your album labels.” I, the ultimate slacker, replied, “Yeah, they’re easier for me to get through than books.

The question is the second hint of a 12-hint series …. All is still vague at this point, but at least we have a start … well … maybe.

I appreciated the Rita Hayworth clip also, but actually I found Storm Large’s rendition more sensuous. Maybe it was the bra-less LBD, maybe just her. She appears to be one of those people who are naturally gifted with superb good looks, health, and talent. Almost like a different species from the rest of humanity. And, I wonder, am I the only one who is shocked that someone like that would desecrate a perfect canvass of pectoral skin with inked graffiti?

I think if Rita had been lip-synching to Storm’s pipes, that would have been yowza, Jim. Lookswise, I’ll take Rita packed in all kinds of form fitting, highly structured lingerie. As for Storm’s back tat, or as you so cleverly refer to it, “pectoral skin with inked graffiti,” I think that screams the times we live in. My millennial pals with their tats always freak out at me when I declare that when they’re my age and I’m pushing up weeds, the generation of the future that will be their age now will look at their tats and see them as something antiquated and oldster, emblematic of their passe generation. The cool millennials will be those that didn’t fall into the pit of trend of the moment and the clearer the pelt, the cooler they’ll seem.

Nothing like Opening Day in Cincinnati. It’s unique among baseball cities. For years, the Reds opened the season for all of baseball – but ESPN offered MLB many dollars to take away the tradition. Of course money won … but the city generally ignores that fact on this day and local traditions remain.
Thousands will pack into the city … and red will be everywhere. (Maybe not as much today because of cooler temps). A long, simply parade is the big event outside of the game. I believe it’s the 97th consecutive year for the parade.
Simple … politicians, flat-bed trucks with fans, local businesses, marching bands, civic groups … but a great tradition. … and this will be my wife’s first to attend!
