George Clooney is one of Cincinnati’s beloved native sons – but he wasn’t the first famous Clooney in the area. Locals know George’s dad (Nick) from his many years in local news, but before that, it was George’s aunt who made a name for herself here and on the national stage – Rosemary Clooney -who ArtWorks featured on the Swing Around Rosie mural. (My past post about it.)
For BLINK, Agar (a social intelligence company) transformed the Swing Around Rosie mural into a projection display of song and dance called Swing & Sway. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find a full video with good song quality – so I recommend following the suggestions associated with each of the videos below.
This one has the best audio, but excludes the beginning and ends too soon. If you get bored, forward to 1:40.
Audio isn’t very good, but it shows more. Start at 0:40 so it overlaps with the previous video.
Here’s the full clip, but the sound isn’t very good. At least you can see the beginning (the first minute).

What fun! Swing and sway! 🙂

Merril,
This is one of the first projection animations I saw that night. It held me in place to watch. I’m bummed that a good version in its entirety either doesn’t exist or I couldn’t find it.

Very cool! Hey, I grew up in a suburb of Cincinnati. I’ll be visiting my parents next week. =)

How long have you been in Hong Kong?

We’ve lived in Hong Kong since the summer of 2004. We run a Hong Kong registered charity and have worked in the region since 1987 though. Thanks for asking! =)

Interesting, the way they put music to a mural image.
Rosemary Clooney was a little before my time. I knew about her music though.
Now … George Clooney … who doesn’t know him?? ~~~ : – )

Isadora,
Ah come on … don’t you know her holiday movies as White Christmas and Holiday Inn? …Nonetheless, George serves as a reminder of the past. Glad you enjoyed this!

You know … now that you mentioned it, I do remember White Christmas. Holiday Inn … : (
Happy Sunday … 😎😃

Holiday Inn – which NEVER plays, darn it – is my favourite!

Dale,
Absolutely a holiday classic. Good news – I would guess services as Netflix and Amazon would have it! 🙂 …
PS: Correction on my part … Rosemary Clooney was only in White Christmas – not Holiday Inn.

Frank,
I suppose I could go searching for it next holiday season…
Right. I wasn’t sure but I didn’t want to correct you and was too lazy to go googling it!

Who doesn’t love a bit of Rosemary Clooney. That woman knew how to swing a song! It must have been so much fun to watch and listen in the moment Frank – this festival continues to impress.

Pauline,
BLINK was fabulous … and (for me) one of the things that made it was that I didn’t know what to expect. Meanwhile, cheers to Rosemary’s achievements!

Interesting Frank. I didn’t know this about Clooney’s parents.

Colline,
Oh yes … Thanks to his aunt the Clooney name was already big long before George was even a thought.

I remember Rosemary Clooney. Was Jose Ferrer his Dad?

Bumba,
George’s dad is Nick (Rosemary’s brother) … Jose was married to Rosemary, and their son was actor Miguel Ferrer.

Resa,
Glad you enjoyed Rosemary again. Yes … more BLINK is in the future – but not sure when. At least one more with murals. 🙂

Good looks obviously run in the Clooney family! I don’t remember Rosemary Clooney but have heard the name and I love the song ‘Sway’. I have a 45 record of ‘Sway’ (inherited from my parents) and I think (from memory) that version is by Bobby Rydell. I don’t think anyone who sees the BLINK display will forget Rosemary!

Joanne,
Welcome back! 😀 … Do you recall two Bing Crosby holiday movie classics … Holiday Inn & White Christmas? Rosemary Clooney was in both of those. Actually, this mural and the projection are based on one of those movies. Meanwhile, oh yes … Clooney are blessed with good genes.

I’ve heard of both movies so will watch them when I have the opportunity. There’s nothing quite as wonderful as old musicals – they just don’t make them like that any more. 🙂

The song “White Christmas” came from the movie “Holiday Inn” …. the movie “White Christmas” followed. Go to the link at the beginning of this post about the mural. I actually have the song when she sings wearing the dress shown in the mural.

Joanne – Correction- Rosemary Clooney was only in White Christmas – but not Holiday Inn.

Your post led me to enjoy the recording from 1959 of Rosemary Clooney singing “Sway” with the Pérez Prado Orchestra on the album “A Touch of Tabasco.”

This is just so cool, Frank. I love Rosemary Clooney and it’s wonderful to see her given such a high profile. I am sure that BLINK introduces her to a whole new generation that perhaps wouldn’t otherwise know of her talents!

Debra,
Glad you enjoyed another touch of Rosemary. Fortunately, today’s generation knows George – but I wonder if they think its his mother!
