Hey hey hey … another weekend is done and gone. Tell us something about your weekend?
I had an evening of ballroom, dinners with sister-in-law and father-in-law, a going-away party, work, and Quickstep formation practice. We also attended a Reds baseball game. It was eventually cancelled due to rain, but we received our bobble head commemorating the 25th anniversary of the last time the Reds won the World Series (1990).
Meals: The Musical returns this week, but this act may be the most difficult. Act 3 featuring Sides, which means side dishes for the meal. Because of the broadness, there is a wide opportunity for creativity, and the producer understands that he needs to be somewhat flexible. Because the producer is the way he is, below are a few guidelines:
- The producer still has discretion
- Vegetables, which includes tomatoes, corn, and beans
- Grains, products of grains, nut, kinds of nuts
- Pastas, Soups
- Unacceptable: Fruit, any fruit, meat and any meat, any dessert, any beverage
I admit that I’ve been anxiously anticipating the opening act. Curtain time will be Wednesday, 9:30 PM (Eastern US).

Oh my word Frank that is going to be very difficult! I shall be having sleepless nights trying to find something suitable and fearing most dreadfully falling foul [fowl?] of the producer!

Pauline,
Act 3 is hard. My initial thought was only vegetables, but simply wanted to expand the offerings. The producer is aiming to be flexible, but his challenge will be deal with comments that challenging him to bend too much.

I like all three commercials, Frank, but the ones with Ray and Michael are tied. Both are a lot of fun. My favorite type of raisin is the total tooth rotting type: dark chocolate covered.

Lame,
Chocolate covered raisins are so good … eat them by the bag in one sitting. Meanwhile, these raisin commercials were huge hits. Here’s an earlier one – but I don’t think it was the first. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=esQFM8Fag1o

I remember that one! The California Raisons were created by Will Vinton, the father of claymation. He won the Academy Award about 40 years ago for “Closed Mondays” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QoBmlbQApJE Are you familiar with this animated short? It was a big deal back then and started the claymation craze.

Definitely the Ray Charles commercial, I love his voice. My weekend, the young man surprised us by showing up at home Friday, saving me from the drive. The young man and I, binge watched all of season 1 of the House of Cards (loved it). Took my laptop in for repairs on Friday And surprisingly I am not going through social media withdrawal.

Catherine,
Cheers to the young man for the surprise visit, let alone spending so much time with his mom. You’re probably further along in House of Cards than me. Gotta love Ray Charles.

Happy Mantanzas Mule Day to you Frank! I had a pretty good weekend. On Saturday morning our village had a baking contest, I entered and got 2nd place in the traybake category with my ‘Pigs in Mud’ 🙂 They were basically very fudgy frosted brownies with pigs I had made out of pink fondant sitting on top. Saturday evening we went to a pub to watch a band which a couple of our friends are in. Sunday a dog arrived that we are looking after for a few days, and she is the loveliest, friendliest, most fun dog ever – even our cats have started taking to her!

Vanessa,
What a fun weekend … thanks for sharing. Congrats on the 2nd place finish! Going to a pub for an evening with a friend’s band is always a good time. I miss the band one of our friends had. … A new dog? Awesome …. and getting the bonding with the cats is great! Enjoy!!!!! Have a wonderful Mule Day!

Very appropriately for the Sides act, Wednesday is a Greenery day and a Gnocchi day.

We bond with Gnocchi Day … I love ’em. … Wanted to do an act just with vegetables, but I questioned the availability of songs.

I love those ads. We didn’t see them in Australia. I will be sure to turn my mattress over this week.

As a time reference, I think the ads originated in 1986 … here’s one of the very early ones. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pM2OK_JaJ9I … but not sure if it was the first

I saw The Age of Adaline this weekend. She doesn’t get wrinkles because she never ages. She remains 29. And she’s sad about that. I figure if I looked like Blake Lively (the actress in it), I’d be just fine being 29 forever…
Happy Monday, Frank!

Carrie,
Good point about Blake Lively. I recall seeing the previews. Did you enjoy the movie?

Yes, I did. Much better than I thought it would be. I needed an escape, and it was a perfect one. And it wasn’t too sappy which was good. I don’t like sap. 🙂

It’s “Tell a story day!” Bloggers should be rejoicing that their posts are right in step!
Wed. should be zippy (also quite appropriate for Zipper Day as we all work on the menu for Rebuilding Day – without any shrimp – as instructed.)
No doubt everyone is baking up a dish while they dance along with the raisin crowd.

I have my first-ever no-fiction story in the blogging queue, so today could have been the day … but Monday Morning Entertainment wins out … could do the next post that goes up this evening, so it would count, but something else planned. Well done at working many days into your comment. 🙂

Yes, all but one comedian were great. The one that was bad was really bad–an angry, rage, shock ranty young man who I think was stoned beyond repair…

All but one is fine, as long as there were more than 2. Angry, rage style doesn’t strike me. Cheers to laughter!

My entire weekend was spent visiting with my brother who was in from Korea! Good food (I cooked), hanging out talking and staying up far to late every single night catching up. It was wonderful, hadn’t seen him in three years.
Thursday is my day!
Loved the videos, those commercials are all to funny.
