The Story
Welcome to Pronouns: The Musical.
Some may ask, “Pronouns?”, but we at A Frank Angle say, “Why not pronouns!”
A subset of nouns, pronouns serve as a substitute for nouns and noun phrases. These bits of linguistics and grammar are versatile and can almost refer to anything.
Although pronouns can be personal, objective, possessive, indefinite, relative, intensive, demonstrative, interrogative, reflexive, and reciprocal, this musical extravaganza focuses on selected pronouns.
Program
Act 3: Me
“Only I can change my life. No one can do it for me.” (Carol Burnett, actor)
“My best friend is the one who brings out the best in me.” (Henry Ford, business leader)
“Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.” (Benjamin Franklin, statesman)
“My mother had a great deal of trouble with me, but I think she enjoyed it.” (Mark Twain, humorist and author)
“No amount of experimentation can ever prove me right; a single experiment can prove me wrong.” (Albert Einstein, scientist)
“What I am looking for is not out there, it is in me.” (Helen Keller, author)
Guidelines
Songs must have Me in the title
Cautions
- No duplicates songs regardless of artists
- Foreign language equivalents unacceptable
- Contractions are acceptable at the discretion of The Producer
Production Note
To prevent browsers crashing from loading too many videos, please 1) include the song title and artist in your text, and 2) paste the URL as part of your last line (not a new line). The latter will provide a link, thus not embed the actual video … but I don’t mind unembedding, so apologies are not necessary.
Announcement
Welcome to the latest musical by aFa Productions – Pronouns: The Musical.
Although I’m not self-centered, Act 3 is about Me. We at aFa Productions appreciate legends agreeing to appear to open an act. Without checking the archives, this may be the first opening act appearance for this classic artist. The song was not only a hit, but Bill Gates paid to use the song to launch Windows 95. Let give a big aFa welcome to the Rolling Stones with Start Me Up.
Act 4: He

Love that! And I’m late. I was having trouble with my phone and too tired to go down to my office… and then I got carried away. Anyway,,, here I am!
Love these “Playing for Change” collaborations. We need more of them.

I’m much later than normal getting around to listening, but wow – that was worth the wait! It’s been awhile since I’ve seen a Playing for Change production – just love this one!

“If You Want Me” from Once. I love the movie, and I’m excited to see the show in the fall. This is the version from the musical. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=itZLtpuwQl0

So beautiful, Merril. I only know “Falling Slowly” as that’s the one they always played… and I haven’t seen the movie yet… Must be added immediately to my must watch! – You do inspire me to watch wonderful things – never managed to watch that baking/love story. 😦

Thank you, Dale. “Falling Slowly” won an Oscar that year, I believe. I’ve seen Once a few times, and I had the soundtrack, too. You should be able to find it pretty easily, I imagine.
If the other movie is the Cakemaker that I just wrote about–we just saw it in the theater.

Yes, I remember and somehow my seeing the movie never happened.
As for the Cakemaker (had a brain fart on the title 😉 ) it is available on YouTube but you have to jump through hoops to watch it, sighing up for this and the other… I finally gave it up.

Yeah–it’s not that great a movie. Maybe it will come out on Netflix sometime.

Wow … a beautiful song, and one that I don’t know. The song (to me) is a bit on the haunting side. … but still fabulous. Thanks for introducing me to this one!

Well…at first I was going to say Dancing in the Streets just to be a pill but figured Dale would probably call me out so…how about something from a fellow citizen from Canada, “As Long As You Love Me” by Justin Bieber. If you can’t stand the little twerp, then how about Blow Me (A Kiss) from Pink. How’s that for being a pill (again)? Happy weekend musical masters. 😊 P.S. I really do enjoy these posts.

Monika,
Dale doesn’t call anyone out – rather, she’s is trying to protect them from The Producer’s wrath. Meanwhile, I listened to both of the songs, definitely prefer Pink over the Bieber – then again, entries shouldn’t be designed to please my musical taste.

Pink! rocks. As for the Beibs, it was the only thing I could think of and because of Dale’s citizenship and last week’s go-round, it sort of fit. 😊

I enjoy several different song styles. This one always made me laugh. I thought Bill Clinton could have used the “It wasn’t me,” defense. He went for “It depends on what sex is,” which was as effective.

He could have also used “It was Obama’s fault.”

It’s an interesting thing that I notice many titles have 2 pronouns in them. The song I chose here has Me & It – last week had You & Me. I believe I have seen 5 titles (besides mine) here in comments that have 2 pronouns in the title. It’s like eating peanuts. One pronoun leads to another. 😀

What a coincidence because I also noticed that. Hint: Keep that thought in mind.

aFa Productions policy is that all commenters must have a song – so in cases like yours, I provide! … so here’s one of my favorite ladies … You Don’t Impress Me Much (Shania Twain) … https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mqFLXayD6e8 …. besides, she’s Canadian like Dale.

Here’s jazz tenor saxophone stylist Art Pepper doing “Everything Happens To Me” in a sometimes edgy (for him) bebop ballad style. The tune from 1940 was a pop standard first recorded by the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra featuring Frank Sinatra. Unusually, the song focused on Sinatra’s vocal, with no trombone solo by Dorsey. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E57SMan1-uA

Seeing as I was chastised last time for not going with the Doors, I will do Doors. Plus there’s lots to choose from. “You Make Me Real,” “Touch Me,”, “Love Me Two Times,” but before any of that can happen: “Build Me A Woman”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d13Anh5I4KA.

Sssooo … I’m running as fast as I can to catch up. Please forgive the repeat of a previous singer I added to your musical before, Leonard Cohen, but I know many, many of his songs and thought you might enjoy this one too. Hubby and I have added this song to our living will. When either of us is at deaths door we plan to cuddle for our final dance in bed.
