Welcome back! Sure hope you had a good weekend. What did you do?
Our weekend was abnormal. Between having a garage sale, family visiting from out-of-town, and errands meant no dancing for us. I also missed the Cincinnati Brew Ha-Ha Festival, America’s largest beer and comedy festival.
Preparation for the garage sale threw me for a loop last week. After all, I forgot to alert you that this past weekend was a chance to celebrate Waffle Day, Whisky Sour Day, Go Topless Day, and Kiss & Makeup Day.
Never fear because here’s this week’s celebrations:
- (Mon) National Dog Day, Women’s Equality Day
- (Tues) The Duchess Who Wasn’t Day
- (Wed) Radio Commercials Day, Race Your Mouse Around Icons Day
- (Thurs) More Herbs Less Salt Day, According to Hoyle Day, National Scarcoidosis Awareness Day, and (for some reason) a second chance to celebrate National Whisky Sour Day
Because of its hot, dry, humid days, August is known as the dog days. Besides needing some rain, the heat and humidity will crank up for us this week. I hate that kind of weather!
In honor of National Dog Day, I think puppies are a good choice to start the week with a smile. Enjoy … and have a great week!
We went to our annual Art in the Park. We don’t really buy anything anymore (we have in the past–no wall space left…) other than kettle corn and rootbeer floats, but it’s fun to look around.

Carrie,
Art in the Park sounds like a wonderful event. One community near us is having one in two weeks, so we may attend … although we don’t need anything at the moment. Cheers to kettle corn and rootbeer floats!

I came upon this comment shortly after wandering around our house, thinking about the plethora of art (?) which conceals my walls, also. Perhaps I need to do a photo-blog about it. I’m still trying to figure how to smuggle an e-copy of your book north of the 49th parallel. (Actually 43rd where we live.) I may have to wait for our next Detroit trip and purchase a paper version. 😀

Thank you! Very nice of you. But I wish I could say paper versions were easy to come by. My publisher is mostly e-book so the print-on-demand paperbacks are expensive and sold online, not in book stores. Can you not access the book from Amazon, B&N, or Whiskey Creek Press (the publisher has PDF versions)?

Sounds like you were very busy. We mostly stayed inside except for an early morning walk before the heat. More of that stuff all week.
Those dogs are funny. Tomorrow for dog day I’m going to the dentist to get my canines cleaned.
I found an interesting song for you. http://youtu.be/voQhaSkrm68

Jim,
Yep – the weekend was busy, but not with our typical fare. Oh well …. the upcoming long weekend will provide a challenge.
Thanks for the song as Tom Waits is a classic!

I looked at your bell choir video again. If you are the one left of the tallest woman and behind the blond hair in the foreground and unusually busy performing, then, you appeared to do a great job. A guy could work up a sweat in that choir.

With rings, marts on the table, and mallets, that piece kept me busy! Here’s a audition group playing the same song …. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ViYK5LGG9R4 Enjoy … they are good!

All but the man on the right have gloves. Is that to help the bell tone and duration? Or, do your hands need them? I notice the placing of the bell against the vest to stop it.
Gotta go get ready for my dentist visit. See you later.

Bell gloves do help a bit on the grip and help kept body oil from the bell … although some profess the ringer has a better feel for the bell without gloves. You may not have noticed ours because they are black. Speaking of the guys on the right, see this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zyfyRp5lalc

I loved the Scotties, too! The weather was great out here, Frank, so of course, I took advantage of it by holing up inside a movie theater. I saw “The Grandmaster” a biopic about the martial arts master, Ip Man. I felt very energized afterward although I did narrowly miss colliding with a lamppost.

Lame,
Glad you had a good weekend and that you didn’t do your George of the Jungle impression with that lamppost. On the downside, the hot, muggy dome is heading your way.

Thanks for reminding that today is National Women’s Equality Day. The article in today’s Cincinnati Enquirer pointing out that last year in the U.S. there was a 1.4 to 1 ratio of women to men enrolled in higher education, speaks mega-volumes when one realizes that it wasn’t that long ago that many banks required women to have their husbands’ written permission before being issued a credit card!

Who wouldn’t love National Dog Day? But still, the dog days of summer are a lot less pleasant. Sorry to hear the heat is making a come-back. My sister tells me that Lexington has been relatively cool this summer, especially compared to last year. God, that was a killer! Stay cool!
Hugs from Ecuador,
Kathy

This last time – I only got on one ride. It was the Whirligig (Swings). I’m not as gravitated to rides as I used to be back in the day. Some of them feel a bit rough after the ride. Before the end of the season I will g on the Superman coaster. I hear that’s one heck of a ride.
